Classic traditional board short
Finisterre has provided some fairly high-tech board shorts, a beautifully made one from Portugal, and now, from mere China, a recycled nylon (non stiff, non shiny, non slippery) in very Californian style, down to the seams all being flat with double rows of stitches, inside and out. This is sturdy, though bonded/welded construction may have the edge in minimizing chafing. The fabric is rather good at adhering to the waist without special measures (one Australian brand has a special stay-in-place fabric for its waistbands, another has little bumpy soft silicone-like bumps). A couple of small California made-in-US brands have very much the same construction (including fly), with one super-careful about sturdiness with two layers of slippery nylon fabric and three rows of seam stitches. Shorts that are erratically available from a California bodysurfing fin brand go with two rows of stitches, considered more than adequate for the Newport Wedge.
The Finisterre Badlands has a very good, and unusual, snap for its back pocket rather than button or hook and loop. The lace at the fly is held in place by a thread connection that can be removed if the lace ever needs replacement. Lace tips are neatly sewn, one of the better approaches. They will not slide through the grommets, unlike many others. By my measurement, outseam is 19 inches.
