FABRIC & AFTERCARE
Japanese ripstop outer fabric, 100% recycled polyester, bluesign® accredited sustainable production. PU microporous membrane. NFC DWR (fluorocarbon free) durable water repellent finish.
We recommend washing at 30°C with a gentle non-detergent. Cleaning will re-activate the DWR (durable water repellent) finish on the fabric. When rain ceases to bead on the fabric it’s a sign that water repellency is fading and cleaning/re-proofing is required. Drip-dry only. Do not use fabric conditioner, bleach or dry-clean.
FLUOROCARBON-FREE - WE PROMISED. WE DELIVERED.
For the majority of waterproof clothing, water repellency is achieved by treating fabrics with fluorocarbon-based Durable Water Repellents (DWRs). However, the fluorocarbons they contain leach slowly from the fabrics and enter the water system. Over time they bioaccumulate in the environment and into the food chain, with the potential to disrupt the immune system, fertility and foetal development of both wildlife and human beings.
Traditional DWRs are made up of C6 or C8 long-chain chemicals. We had been using C6 for the past five years, which is comparatively better than C8 due to its ability to break down over time, making it slower to bioaccumulate. As a business we are by no means perfect, nor do we have all the answers, but in the face of an ever changing landscape, we always seek and commit to the best and most sustainable way of making our product. Last year we announced our commitment as a business towards eliminating fluorocarbons from our waterproof range by the end of 2017. We believed it was attainable and we're proud to have made it a reality.
