B Corp™
We’ve been a B Corp since 2018. The first outdoor apparel brand in Europe to be certified, we’re proud to have again recertified this year, increasing our score by 25% to an impressive 116.3.
What is a B Corp?
B Corp Certification means that as a company we have been verified as meeting B Corp’s high standards for social and environmental impact. We have also made a legal commitment to stakeholder governance and are committed to demonstrating accountability and transparency by disclosing our record of performance in a public B Corp profile.
Breaking Down Our Score
In 2025 we were proud to recertify as a B Corp. But what does that actually mean?
To recertify we completed an in-depth business impact assessment, requiring a score of at least 80 points to pass. For context, the average company scores just over 50.
It’s not a one-size-fits-all approach. Each assessment is tailored to the individual organisation; taking into account sector, size and location, as well as how the business affects its people, customers, community and the environment.
Here we break down our overall score, the areas of our business that are assessed, and how each area contributes to our overall B Corp certification:
Governance:
‘Governance’ evaluates Finisterre’s overall mission, engagement on social and environmental impact, ethics, and transparency. It also assesses the company’s ability to protect its mission and formally consider all stakeholders in decision-making. A key part of this is Finisterre’s adoption of a legal structure that requires the company to take the interests of all stakeholders into account in its governance and corporate decisions, ensuring our mission and values are embedded at every level of the business.
Workers:
‘Workers’ evaluates Finisterre’s contributions to employees’ financial security, health and safety, wellness, career development, engagement, and satisfaction. This recognises that Finisterre is a Real Living Wage employer, committed to fair and transparent pay and benefits that support financial stability.
It also reflects the company’s focus on safe and supportive working conditions, opportunities for learning and progression, and initiatives that enhance wellbeing, including social events, yoga, surf lessons, and counselling. These efforts nurture an inclusive, collaborative culture where employees feel valued, empowered, and connected to Finisterre’s mission.
Community:
‘Community’ evaluates Finisterre’s engagement with and impact on the communities in which we operate, hire from, and source our materials. This includes community initiatives, the work of the Finisterre Foundation, and volunteering and charitable partnerships, reflecting our commitment to respect human rights and care for the people who make our products.
These values extend internally, reflecting Finisterre’s commitment to creating a workplace where all employees feel valued, respected, and empowered. Together, these pillars demonstrate how Finisterre invests in people both within the company and across the wider communities we touch.
Environment:
‘Environment’ evaluates Finisterre’s overall environmental management practices and our impact on air, climate, water, land, and biodiversity. This includes the direct impact of our operations as well as, where relevant, our supply chain and distribution channels. As a clothing brand, this is one of our most significant scoring areas, reflecting the scale of our environmental footprint. It recognises the importance of using preferred fibres, including recycled materials, organic cotton, and other sustainable inputs, to reduce resource use and minimise environmental impact throughout the lifecycle of our products.
Customers:
‘Customers’ evaluates Finisterre’s stewardship of our customers through the quality of our products and services, ethical marketing, data privacy and security, and feedback channels.
Our score also recognises products that support the positive development of individual health and wellbeing, such as wetsuits and swimsuits that encourage outdoor activity and water-based sports. We measure and manage their use to support these outcomes wherever possible.
New Standards: Raising The Bar For All
From April 2025, B Lab is reshaping the way they certify businesses. The movement has never been about rubber stamping businesses, rather getting them to commit to a framework in which they are expected to improve each time they recertify.
The new standards will provide a clearer definition of what it means to be B Corp, raising the bar for everyone. They also move away from an individual point scoring system, instead elevating collective community efforts while creating standards that are motivating and engaging. The new standards will require every business to demonstrate continual improvement, year after year, with new requirements after 3 and 5 years to push company impact even further.

Always Have, Always Will.
Becoming B Corp certified was a proud moment for us – joining a global movement of like-minded businesses pushing for change – but we have been a sustainably focussed business since our founding in 2003; with our guiding commitments to People, Environment and Product. Becoming certified was a confirmation of this, and being part of the B Corp community means we stand shoulder to shoulder with others who share our values; learning from each other and collaborating to reap the rewards of our shared expertise.
