North Cornwall Microadventures

I joined the Finisterre team here in Hawksfield in the Summer of 2019 as the store manager. Being a keen surfer myself and living on the North Coast, the main allure that attracted me to work for Finisterre is its connection to the cold-water surfing community. I wanted to find a role within a brand that aligned with my lifestyle and moral compass. It’s super refreshing to work for a company that cares for more than just its product and really thinks about how it can have a positive impact in the world.

My passion for people has grown even more over the past couple of years with my own personal development as I’m a qualified PT, Surf coach and recently as Yoga teacher. I’ve managed to intertwine my passion for health, wellbeing and people into the wider business by teaching regular yoga classes for all Finisterre staff to attend. It's such a great way to connect with my fellow employee’s, sharing and aligning our ethos’s in People, Environment and Product.

The North coast is well known for its surfing beaches. Close by to Hawksfield we have a variety amazing beaches for you to experience Surfing. Mawgan Porth, Harlyn, Constantine and Polzeath 15-20 minutes away. If you’re new to surfing, we have some awesome surf schools on the beaches, listed with a variety of water-based activities; surfing, coast steering, sea kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding, for you to soak up the Cornish lifestyle.

A Great way to explore the Cornish coastline close to Hawksfield would be to take the circular walk around the rugged coastline of Trevose Head. Starting at Constantine bay and crossing Boobys bay on to the coastal path heading towards Dinas Head and the lighthouse with a variety of coves and caves to stimulate the senses. In spring and summer the headlands come alive with bursts of pinks and yellows as the coastal flowers bloom, with several types of sea birds using the cliffs of Trevose as their homes and for breeding. Once you get past Dinas Head and the light house, the route continues past the Padstow lifeboat station onto the lovely, sheltered bay of Mother Ivey’s and then onto the great surfing beach of Harlyn. The return route is pretty is easy going, just follow all footpaths and lanes back to Constantine bay.

The Camel Trail cycleway alongside the camel estuary starts off in Wadebridge, just a 10 min drive from Hawskfield, and finishes off in fishing port town of Padstow. The Camel trail has variety of bike hire shops to choose from, but a great option in Wadebridge is Camel Trail Cycle Hire, situated near the entrance to the trail. This route is very scenic and popular with nature lovers, with views of the Camel Estuary and the beaches of Rock and Daymer Bay along the route. You can pack a picnic, take your time and enjoy a casual cycle, stopping off and admiring view along the way or rewarding yourself with some food when you finish the trail, with the huge variety of restaurants that Padstow has to offer.
