Gather: Part 2
The People We Meet
In the second chapter of our summer adventure, the crew, and those we’d met along the way, gathered to share stories, raise glasses and talk late into the night.
We spoke to New York surfer Quest Soliman about his journey from Brooklyn to Rockaway Bay, Ventura local Ming-Hui Brown on body positivity and embedding herself in the local surf community, and former Surfer Magazine Art Director Jeff Canham about his passion for colour and the progression he’s seen in modern surf culture.

Jeff Canham
Speaking to former Surfer Mag Art Director, Jeff Canham, about his passion for colour, and how he’s seen surf culture evolve.
Quest Soliman
From growing up skating the streets of Fort Greene, Brooklyn, Quest Soliman found identity and community in the unique surf scene of Far Rockaway, Queens. We sat down to get the inside line on his journey.
“I went from getting in trouble to now having the confidence to connect to others about the ocean. It’s unreal.”
Quest Soliman
We caught up with old friends, who introduced us to new ones, deepening our connections with this land and the people we’d met there.
Quest got stuck in on the ranch, embracing the different setting having joined us from the east coast, and Ventura local Ming shared a few waves with the crew before joining us for an evening of good food and good company.
Ming-Hui Brown
A surfer, model and aspiring surf coach, we were introduced to Ming through mutual friends. We sat down to talk about her surf career, upbringing, body positivity and being a local in one of America’s most famous beach towns.
“Surfing was the thing that totally saved me and made me who I am.”
Ming-Hui Brown
Jeff Canham
Artist and Sign Writer Jeff Canham made the trip down the coast for a surf and to join the evening’s festivities. We took the chance to talk to him about growing up on Oahu, his time as Artistic Director at Surfer Magazine how he’s seen surf culture change.
“When I reflect back, it isn’t the work I did that really stands out to me, it’s the people that I got to interact with.”
Jeff Canham
Nourished by the bonds we had formed, we departed knowing there would always be a seat at the table should we be passing through again. Filled with gratitude, we set our sights on the season ahead, excited for the next adventure...
