Q: Is wool a sustainable material?

Wool certainly is a sustainable material, for as we all know sheep grow a new fleece each season. We also champion responsibly farmed sheep, recycled wool, as in our Revive project that makes new knitwear from old woollens, and regeneratively farmed wool.

Q: Can I wear knitwear hiking?

Of course, wool is a natural fibre that is warm, breathable and fast drying. Wear it as a mid-layer over a merino wool base layer for added warmth, and pack it away in your backpack when the going gets warm. Now get out there and enjoy the hike.

Q: How do I care for my woollen jumper?

Wash only when necessary - one of wool’s superpowers in that it is antimicrobial - use cool water and wool-specific planet friendly detergent, dry flat to prevent stretching, and store folded. Remove bobbles gently with a fabric comb. Avoid moth exposure by storing clean garments with cedar or lavender. We also offer a knitwear contrast repair service though our Lived & Loved initiative, further extending the life of your favourite jumpers.

Do Finisterre jumpers bobble?

Knitwear does bobble but you can reduce the likelihood of bobbling by caring for your jumpers properly. Wash less and when you do wash your knitwear do so inside out. Be sure to use light detergents that are kind to the environment and always follow the washing instructions on the product. Finisterre jumpers are also made of high-quality wool, which is more bobble resistant, as the fibres are longer and stronger.
