Q: What waterproof rating do I need in a jacket?

For light rain and short exposure, 5,000 to 10,000mm is adequate. For extended use in moderate rain, look for 10,000 to 15,000mm waterproofing. Heavy rain and extreme conditions require 15,000 to 20,000mm waterproofing. Equally important is breathability -measured in grams (g), which prevents condensation building up inside during the jacket active use.

Q: What does DWR mean and why does it matter?

DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating applied to fabrics that makes water bead and roll off rather than soak in.
