Despite the irrefutable right of everyone to experience the wonder of the outdoors, cultural barriers still exist.

Phil Young, producer, photographer and activist, is founder of The Outsiders Project — whose mission is to deconstruct those barriers. We spent a few days under the open sky exploring with Phil, Omie Dale and Soraya Abdel-Hadi how and why these barriers exist — and what needs to be done to bring them down.

But words without action are empty...

As part of Finisterre’s commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion in the outdoors, we have teamed up with Phil Young and The Outsiders Project to develop and nurture the various initiatives they represent. Our role always was, and will continue to be, to encourage people from our whole community to get out there under the open sky.

Featuring

Soraya Abdel-Hadi

Omie Dale

"Through swimming I've definitely fostered a much stronger connection to the land that we live on and the water that surrounds it."

Phil Young

"You feel that, you have to be around people that are like you, and you have to feel safe. And that means that you stay in the cities, and you build a community, and you build a lifestyle and culture around cities."

Soraya Abdel-Hadi

"My role in this conversation is to bring people together and to bridge gaps, that's actually where I feel I come into my own in this space."
