I found it hard to chose between the Lapwing jacket and coat but went for the coat as I have other shorter jackets. It's not too padded so it adds warmth without bulk and has nice clean lines. I live in the north of the UK but the cold doesn't bother me much so it's a winter coat for me, In a colder climate, or if you feel the cold, it's probably best for spring and autumn. My usual size had room for a jumper or thin fleece underneath so it's great for layering too.
