I have previously bought Finisterre base layers made from 80% merino and 20% polyamide. They have lasted well and stood up to hard use and many washes. I have now bought Finisterre base layers with the new 2.0 100% merino composition. So far so good. They are comfortable and are fine after two washes. I will be interested to see if the new 2.0 merino base layers will be as long-lasting as the old ones with 20% polyamide. Finisterre's own website states:
"Our moisture-wicking, thermoregulating Merino Wool Base Layers are made using an extensively tried-and-tested blend of 80% Merino and 20% Polyamide.
When we first launched our Merino range, we began with 100% Merino Wool products. We quickly learned, however, that the lifespan of pure Merino products wasn't ideal, with the fabric twisting and laddering when worn and washed over time. Following repeated experiments and direct feedback from our customers, we have since refined our range to incorporate the perfect balance of Polyamide. This blend vastly improves strength and durability without affecting the softness of the Merino."
Only time will tell!
